About This Year's Gala, I Remember Harlem

This streamed event will be host to a variety of dance, music, and poetry from the Harlem Renaissance performed by some of the industry’s most renowned black artists. These performances will feature the works of artists such as Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Langston Hughes, and more. I Remember Harlem is a musical celebration highlighting the brilliant works of African American artists from the 20s and 30s.

A brief awards presentation will take place immediately before the performances. The Frankie Muse Freeman Spirit Award will be given to an individual or group who exemplifies her spirit, courage, commitment to social justice, community service and appreciation of the arts. The Woodie King, Jr. Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to an artist who during their lifetime has made significant contributions in the arts and has been a major influence in Black Theatre. The 2020 Woody King Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to acclaimed Emmy Award winning actor Keith David.
